Final Exam Essay Question

The essay question for the exam is as follows:

“In periods D and E, the United States made both friends and enemies in the Non-Western World.” Discuss this claim in relation to the Middle East, and two of the following: Japan, China, Cuba, and Vietnam. (Keep in mind that the US in some ways encouraged independence and in other ways practiced imperialism.)

Good luck!

Mexico-US Homework

For tomorrow (Wednesday, 5.25), read the article on Mexico's drug war by the Council on Foreign Relations.

http://www.cfr.org/mexico/mexicos-drug-war/p13689

Take a page of notes for discussion tomorrow.

Then choose any article, audio or video clip from this link:

http://www.cfr.org/region/mexico/ri242

and take a page of notes as well.

Remember to choose something of appropriate length- some of the audio is too long, some of the articles, too. The blog posts are a good choice.

Tiananmen Square Videos

This first video is on Tiananmen Square- Watch the first 5 minutes for sure, any more if you like.

The second video shows how little today's Chinese know about what really happened.

I also encourage you to search for "Tiananmen Square" on YouTube and view some of the other footage.

SPEECHES TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY

All speeches must be turned in tomorrow at class time. Everyone should be prepared to speak. You can check the board in our classroom for the order of speeches. I reserve the right to alter the order based on attendance or other concerns.

Some of you still have not "shared" your noodlebib note cards with me online. This must be done by tomorrow unless I spoke with you about printing them instead. The assignment drop box is "Middle East Peace Speeches." If you also check the box to share your paper with me, you must write your paper using GoogleDocs.

Email with any questions.
